Welcome to Chelsea Orthodontics! We’ve been providing people with beautiful, healthy smiles since 1987.
Orthodontics is a combination of science and art. We design each treatment to uniquely suit each individual’s needs.
We want every patient and family to be fully informed about their orthodontic treatment. Before you start your treatment, we spend lots of time with you to make sure that you feel comfortable with your treatment options.
The key words of our practice are Kindness, Respect, and Quality.
Dr. Mary Barkley is a life-long Michigan resident – she grew up in Flushing, Michigan, near Flint. She received her dental degree from the University of Michigan in 1984, and her orthodontic degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy in 1986. She has practiced orthodontics in Chelsea since 1987.
Dr. Barkley is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. This is a voluntary examination process, in which an orthodontist presents treated cases and undergoes an oral exam. Involvement in the certification process is a demonstration of the orthodontist's pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence. For more information on ABO certification, go to http://www.americanboardortho.com/public/ .
Dr. Barkley is very involved in leadership of the orthodontic community – she served as President of the Michigan Association of Orthodontists in 1997, and as President of the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Ontario and western Pennsylvania) in 2008. She continues to serve on committees and councils of the American Association of Orthodontists.
Dr. Barkley and her husband, Gregory, have two sons, Dan and Brian, who are both in college.
Dr. Barkley would like everyone to know that she loves being an orthodontist! “Providing orthodontic treatment is like putting a puzzle together,” she says. “I have so many puzzle pieces to assemble for each patient – jaw size, tooth size, jaw growth, facial profile. And then I get to design the orthodontic treatment that will most benefit each patient’s different puzzle pieces!”

My name is Theresa. I’ve been with Chelsea Orthodontics since 2005 . I am the Appointment Coordinator. I have been married to my wonderful husband Jim, for 25 years. We have two kids, Megan is 24 years old and Jimmie is 19.
I am an animal lover! I have two dogs Rikki and Rylie, I also have two cats Oliver and Mimi. I enjoy being outdoors in the summer tending my flower gardens as well as grooming my green lawn. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends camping in the summer. My favorite past time is shopping. I would never turn down the opportunity to shop, I was “born to shop”.
My name is Jennifer. I have been a part of the Chelsea Orthodontic team since 2010. I became an orthodontic assistant about 8 years ago. I had just moved to Michigan from New Mexico to be with my family while my husband was deployed. It wasn’t long before my sister had convinced me to send in my resume at the orthodontic office she was working at. It only took a few days of training to see why she loved ortho. so much. It is so great to see the changes to a person’s smile and confidence, especially when you’ve been there from start to finish.
I was 9 when I started my orthodontic treatment and I am so grateful to my parents for my smile! I could tell you a hundred “back when I was in braces” stories, I will leave it at this the technology and techniques in orthodontics now are incredible! I can say I thoroughly enjoy my job.
I married my best friend almost 13 years ago. The first 7 years were shared with the Air Force. We froze in North Dakota for a few years, then we relocated to New Mexico to defrost. Together we are raising 5 (yes, 5) wonderful little ladies. We have our 17 year old niece Katie, and our 4 daughters Kaliana 9, Dakota 6, Carolena 2, and Little Lucy is 1 When I’m not here hanging out with my awesome patients you will find me playing, chasing, and doing my very best to keep up with my family!
Hi my name is Amanda; I have been here at Chelsea Orthodontics since 2012. I have worked in the orthodontic field since I was 19 years old and I am now 26. I have one beautiful daughter, her name is Aubree. You can usually find me wherever she is. We do everything together, we love to go on vacation and have as many adventures as we can.
I had braces when I was 12 years old and also as an adult only because I didn’t wear my retainers like I should have. I love braces; I think it is so amazing to watch how much positive change comes with having orthodontic treatment.
My daughter and I have lived here in Michigan and also lived in North Carolina for a few years although it was a fun adventure for us, Michigan is our home and we decided to come back and it is very exciting to be able to be with family again.
